Tube Fairy

Isaac had a routine follow-up appointment at the ENT on Monday. The girls had a play date, and, therefore, it was just the boys and me for the afternoon. Isaac had a great time! He loved his doctor, also named Isaac, loved seeing the inside of his ear on a big TV, and loved asking a million questions about how everything works. He was super cute when the doc asked if he could look in his ear. Isaac replied, "Yes, but if it hurts sometimes I might cry, but only sometimes...yeah." The doctor took out a tube that had been hanging out in the middle of one of his ears. Isaac was so brave and excited to take it home to show his sisters the gross wax covered tube. The doctor even told him he could try putting it under his pillow and see if the "tube fairy" would take it and leave him money. That's a funny idea. Isaac forgot to put it under his pillow, but the tube fairy came anyway and left a dollar at his spot at the breakfast table in the cup where the tube had been.

4 Years and 4 Shots!

But Genna was brave! Yesterday at the doctor, she got up on that table knowing full well that it was going to hurt and I was proud. She cried maybe 10 seconds, and the instant the word "sticker" was uttered, the tears suddenly stopped. She also got a scoop of ice cream after Mass to make her boo boos feel better.

She is around the 60th percentile in both height and weight.
40 1/2 inches and 36lbs

She has flat feet (which we already knew- gets it from her Daddy) and some fluid in her ears which we didn't know about. The fluid may be the cause of all the "What did you say, Mom?" and "I didn't hear you," and "Can you turn it up? I can't hear it." I was just chalking it up to her living in Wonderland instead of on Earth with the rest of us. So we have to go back to the doctor again before our move to see if the fluid resolves itself. What is up with my kids and ear troubles this year?

Ear Solutions: Trial and Error Part 1

The ENT says Isaac's problem may lie with enlarged adenoids. Since his hearing tests came back great and there is only a small amount of fluid and pressure behind the ear drum then we can take some time to try a few things before resorting to surgery. So, we are supposed to put drops of decongestant in his nose twice a day. Then go back to see the doc in 4 weeks. The doctor said to do this everyday, but the pharmacist said no more than 10 days of it in a row. So I need to call the doctor back about this discrepancy. For now we are living it up ear infection free while it lasts!
