Meeting Tim

Brian and I went to a pro-life benefit dinner for A Woman's Haven and the speaker was Tim Tebow. We were table leaders and, therefore, labeled VIP.  So we got to meet him and his wife briefly before the event.

Let's round out that head!

Like I said the previous post, Roman got a helmet.  This is for his head shape.  We had a cranial scan weeks before, and it showed that his head was 11% off the typical shape.  Below 6% is normal and 15% is severe.  He was right in the middle, so we opted to get him an expensive helmet.  He has some torticollis and getting his head symmetrical will help us get that sorted out as well.

To show some of the flatness that we're trying to fix...

"Is it really that flat, guys?  I mean, really, a helmet for months for this little thing?"

It is foam and doesn't weigh much, but it definitely caused some backtracking in his tummy time.  To him it must feel like a heavy load. Think how strong he'll be when he gets it off in a few months.

The helmet does make him super hot and sweaty if we don't keep him very cool.  He still is hooked on his swaddle at night and so he sleeps naked with a modified breathable swaddle so he doesn't sweat at night.

He has o wear it 23 hours a day, so it only comes off at bath time at night and for a little bit longer to sanitize and dry it.

Genevieve and Judah, by far, steal the most cuddles with Roman.  This is after bath and getting ready for bed!

A graphics place in town, called Printit Wraps & Graphics, actually will design and wrap the helmets for free as a charity.  The lady who did it didn't speak English, so she had someone translate for her to tell me that it makes her so happy to do this for babies.  I asked if she wanted a picture, so she took one of my sweet boy turned Captain America!

Picking up his helmet after it was wrapped!

When he first got the helmet, for about a week or so, he would raise his brow and scrunch it like this, checking out that new feeling of it moving slightly on his head.

I decided to have his name put on the Velcro too.

Spring Break

For a few days of our spring break, we went to stay at Brian's parents condo on the lake.  It is near their house, so the girls actually stayed with the grandparents and the boys stayed with us.  We could walk to eat, play in the hot tub, read, and play games because there was no Wifi or TV set up yet which was really nice actually.  One day, an old friend came over with new games and we played games nonstop for ten hours.

It was a really relaxing trip actually.  Roman accidentally got "pushed" on the first day to four hours between feeds and I was so worried how I'd make up the ounces that evening only to find that he was hungrier and started actually eating enough more than usual to make up for the missed bottle.  He went to 5 bottles a day and hasn't had to go back to 6 bottles since.  He even took a 7 oz bottle that day which he hasn't ever done again, but he's still getting enough (24-27 oz/day) and gaining weight.  Yay!

The following week was spring break for our nephew (from Indiana) so they came through for one quick overnight visit.  He brought his virtual reality game and let the boys try it.  One of the games is walking off a plank that is super high in a city.  Brian couldn't do it, but I did it even though I thought I was the one afraid of heights.  I was just better at playing the mind game of reminding my brain that my feet were on solid ground.

So cute!

Yes, somebody got a giant cookie in he middle of Lent since Mommy was at the doctor with Roman.  :)

Our favorite restaurant in all of San Antonio!

Isaac was hooked.

This was actually the first day he got his helmet, but he didn't have it wrapped yet.  More on that later.

The Little Rocker Recliner Miracle

Daddytime

Judah and Roman

These little silicone feeders are new since my last baby.  They have tiny holes to let small amounts of food through.  You can put pretty much anything in them too.

Back at Christmastime, I was in search of a great rocker recliner that would last me longer than Roman's baby years.  I went to several places with Brian sitting in every one we could find.  I only loved this one brown recliner that was just soft and squishy enough and let me recline easily all the way back.  However, they told me this was just a custom order chair and this was the floor model that I fell in love with.  I asked if they'd sell me the floor model and they said no.  The custom order would take 8-12 weeks, long after his surgery was scheduled for.  I didn't want to wait more than a few weeks so that I'd have it available after we came home from the hospital.  I decided that I was going to pray to St. Jude, patron saint of lost causes, and ask for his intersession to allow me to buy this chair before his surgery.  I prayed over Christmas break and after we returned from Dallas, I decided to stop by there again and see if they got another one or if they'd reconsider selling me the floor model.   I asked again about the floor model and they said sure, we'll wrap it up for you to pick up this afternoon.  I have loved the chair.  It was for a while the only place that Roman would take a bottle.  We have spent hours in that chair either eating, trying to eat, or reading stories before bed times.  Thanks to St. Jude and Jesus!

It's a bad picture of the chair because of the lighting, but you'll just have to trust me that it is so wonderful!

I think I have mentioned before that Roman loves his hedgehog that vibrates and plays music.  He got it right before going in to the hospital for surgery, and it served him well there when we often weren't able to rock him to sleep.  He now has it right next to him when he sleeps and always in the carseat.  It's a lifesaver!
