Drew Turns Seven

Before we knew what happened almost a month went by and our wild child turned seven.  He has been remarkably more grown up since his birthday.  It always amazes me how much more helpful seven year olds are than six year olds.  They make some developmental jump and are suddenly able to vacuum a room without help or to rinse and load all the dishes.  In some ways a seven year old is more helpful than a thirteen year old because they don't begrudge the work quite so much.  I love seven year olds!

Drew is in First Communion Preparation this year at our co-op.  Although technically he is first grade age because of his birthday being thirteen days after the cut off, since he is homeschooled, I can have him in second grade.  Speaking of school, he is reading easy readers books aloud to me everyday trying to get more comfortable and fluent in his reading.  He's not taken off yet reading to himself which is later than my other kids, but that neither surprises me nor concerns me.  He'll get it in his own time.

On his birthday, we did presents in the morning before taking the girls to school like with Judah.  We couldn't go out to dinner or really do much for his birthday because it was "Curriculum Night" at the girls' school for the parents.  He requested Chick-fil-a for dinner and that was easy to make happen.  That was followed up by a movie while the girls babysat the boys.  We did take some time to make a trip to the library during the day too.  He spent some time practicing on his new heelies that day too.

Drew's real birthday dinner was postponed a bit and we went to Red Robin on National Cheeseburger Day and got cheap hamburgers and fries.  His seven year old privilege is actually a boys only birthday party, but we decided to hold off on that until next year since it is so hectic right now with the move and he doesn't have many friends yet to invite, just his cousins.
