I am so excited about this summer reading program for the kids! You have to read 20 minutes to mark off one game square on the game board, and when you get to certain landmarks you take it up and get a little prize. We read between 30 and 40 minutes a day to the girls usually so we should sail through this.
Today while at the library we got The Wizard of Oz by Frank Baum because Hannah has been dying to watch it, but she is just too sensitive to handle it as of now. So we promised her we would get the book and read it to her a little at a time like Brian has been doing with The Chronicles of Narnia. Some people have made comments to us that Hannah is too young to understand these kind of books without pictures, but I'm telling you she pays close attention and knows what's going on. She can tell you all about Aslan and the Pevensie children. And after reading the first chapter of The Wizard of Oz to her, I know why. She asks questions and hangs onto every word even during the descriptive parts. When they were describing Dorothy's house and room, Hannah asked me why there weren't any toys. I love that she was picturing Dorothy's room so vividly and noticed what was different from her own room. She is going to be a bookworm. I just know it!
