Under

U week's themes were the underground railroad and under the sea. We read several books about the sea and it's creatures. Mostly it was reviewing animals we have already studied, like octopus, jellyfish, etc. We did not do an activity on this.

For the underground railroad, we read several excellent books:

and

Escaping North: A Story about Harriet Tubman

Here is where we tried our first official attempt at narration. Hannah told me what she learned from the book, and I wrote it down for her. Next year, we will be using this form of writing often except she will be working up to copying everything I write down for her. Then she will move on to writing it herself eventually. It was a little like pulling teeth to get her to do this even though she had plenty to say about the book before I was ready to write it down. Something about this made her uncomfortable. So we are going to practice this more as the school year comes to a close and hopefully get more comfortable with this process.
