St. Martin's feast day is a big thing over here in Germany. They do parades for the kids in all the villages carrying lanterns and singing songs. We learned all about it in Hannah's German class. They even got to act out one of the stories about St. Martin, when he gave half his coat to a beggar in the winter. Then the villagers wanted to make him king, and he did not want to be. So he hid in the goose barn. They found him eventually with their lanterns and crowned him king anyways. I took pictures of the kid's dressed up and acting it out. Here are a couple.
Here Hannah is a goose and Genna is hanging out in the goose barn as well (has to be with sissy!)
Here Hannah is the beggar asking for help auf deutsch while Genna sits close by trying on the goose nose.
Hannah is doing much much better in her class now that she has a little more German under her belt and knows the routine of the class. She has learned the "Guten Morgen" song, most of her colors, some body parts, and other random words and phrases in German. Genna is even picking stuff up already. Today when they were counting, she busted out with a few numbers. She may learn to count in German before she learns in English! I know we certainly do more counting auf deutsch around here these days than in English, so it wouldn't surprise me.
